The 2015 Nobel Prize for chemistry went to three scientists “for having mapped, at a molecular level, how cells repair damaged DNA and safeguard the genetic information”.
The prize for medicine went to advances in treating parasitic diseases including malaria and river blindness.
Editorial Comment: Since the initial discovery, a multitude of processes that constantly survey and repair DNA has been discovered. The purpose of DNA repair is to keep the genetic information unchanged. This means DNA is designed to not evolve.
The only reason some DNA goes unrepaired, and therefore some changes in the code are passed on from one generation to another, is that the world has degenerated greatly due to human sin and God’s judgement, and the rate of damage exceeds the rate of the repair processes. Even in the very good world God originally created, where radiation from the sun was a source of energy, a mechanism for radiation damage repair would have been needed, but the rate of damage would have been much lower, and the repair processes would have easily kept up with any problems.
River blindness is the disease David Attenborough uses to attack creationists by claiming he could not believe in a god who invented a worm that could only live in children’s eyes. However, as we have pointed out many times, the worms do not live in human eyeballs – they die there! So they make people go blind because the dead worms cause inflammation in the eye, and calcium is deposited around the decomposing worm to protect you from the ‘pollution’ and that’s what makes people go blind.
The worms infect people when people are bitten by black flies. In the original very good world that God created, black flies would not have bitten people. All animals, including insects ate plants. Therefore, Attenborough cannot blame God for River Blindness, and one day he will have to answer to God for this.
These two Nobel Prizes are good reminders that the real history of the world is from creation to degeneration, just as the Bible tells us. (Ref. disease, genetics, infections, degeneration)
