UK teachers back creationism, according to reports in The Guardian and Times Education Supplement (TES), 7 November 2008. Following the resignation of Michael Reiss from the Royal Society, the UK based website and TV station “Teachers TV” carried out a survey on the role of creation in education. One of the questions asked about government guidelines that state: “creationism and intelligent design are not part of the science national curriculum programmes of study and should not be taught as science”. 29 percent disagreed or strongly disagreed with the guidelines. Furthermore (according to the Guardian) “Nearly nine in 10 respondents agreed with Reiss that teachers should engage with pupils who raise creationism or intelligent design in science lessons.”
According to TES “the poll found that 30 per cent of schools already tackle creationism or intelligent design during science lessons.” Atheists and secularist are alarmed by the findings and want the government to ban teaching creation from science lessons. Terry Sanderson, of the National Secular Society, commented to TES: “Teachers seem to think it’s OK to introduce creationism into science lessons, as though it’s true, or real, or equivalent to science. But it isn’t equivalent. It’s mythology. It is time for the Government to issue clear and uncompromising guidance, telling teachers that not only is it unacceptable to give equivalence to creationism in science lessons, but it’s banned.”
Editorial Comment: If the evolutionists have to resort to having creation banned, and evolution forced onto students without any discussion, that will be proof that science has failed to support their beliefs. If evolution is science, then it does not need politicians and law courts to enforce its teaching and ban mention of alternatives. The fact is any belief about the origins of the earth and living things goes beyond the limitations of science. No human beings were there to see it, so whatever you believe about, will start with a faith basis. Evolution is a belief that chemicals turn into simple cells and simple cells turn into complex organisms, over billions of years. Neither of these things has ever been observed by any human being, so they are believed by blind faith. Biblical Creation begins with acceptance of Genesis that God created things to produce after their Kind, which if you haven’t noticed, is what all living things have been observed to do. Now whose faith is rational and fits the science? (Ref. atheism, controversy, politics)
