New Scientist visits Creation Museum, as described in the Short Sharp Science Blog, 8 July 2008. Whilst travelling across the USA to take up a position at New Scientist magazine Devin Powell visited the Answers in Genesis Creation Museum. “I felt a little guilty about supporting their agenda with my $22 ticket,” he wrote, “but I learned an intriguing bit of information: Creationists have a subscription to New Scientist.”
He went on to describe a conversation between a small boy and his mother who were looking at a photo of a rhesus monkey, and then commented: “The urge to pull that small child aside and encourage him, to whisper about the beauty of evolution, was almost irresistible. But I was outnumbered and outgunned in hostile territory, so I cautiously withdrew.”
Editorial Comment: Before he tells anyone about the “beauty of evolution” Devin Powell should remember that evolution is a process of death, disease, starvation and struggle. Darwin himself wrote in the last paragraph of his book on evolution, “Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely the production of the higher animals, directly follows.” There is nothing beautiful about this, and Darwin knew it was incompatible with a God who claimed to have made everything “very good”.
Sadly Darwin chose to cling to his theory and reject God, and so have many of his followers. It is for this reason Creation Research is working with Answers in Genesis UK to make a two part DVD examining Darwin’s theory and pointing out that the only time the world was completely beautiful was when God finished the world in the beginning. Since then the world has changed, but it has not evolved, and the changes are certainly not beautiful – they are the effects of man’s sin and God’s judgement. (Ref. education, theology)
