Neolithic noodles found, according to a report in Nature, vol 437, p 967, 13 October 2005. Archaeologists in China have found the world’s oldest bowl of noodles in “a well preserved, sealed earthenware bowl discovered in the late Neolithic archaeological site of Laja in Northwestern China.” The noodles were made from millet and resembled La-Mian noodles, traditional Chinese noodles made by repeatedly pulling and stretching dough. The site where the noodles were found has been radiocarbon dated as approximately 4,000 years old.
Editorial Comment: Unprocessed grains are not very nutritious because human digestive systems do not break down starch granules very well. The origin of food processing and cooking is rather a mystery to evolutionists, and is sometimes described in terms of cavemen accidentally dropping ground up grain onto hot coals in their fires. Farming and processing grains is part of the dominion over the earth that God gave to human beings. The first mention of using processed grains for food in the Bible is in Genesis 3. After Adam and Eve defied God’s instructions about what food not to eat in the Garden of Eden God sent them out to till the ground and work hard for their food. Noah had to store food on the Ark during the flood so perhaps this discovery is based on Noah’s Original Noodle Recipe. Making nutritious food from grains requires forward planning and hard work, so it is difficult to imagine how it might have evolved by chance by semi-intelligent beings that have just come down from the trees.
